CVG Breathes New Life into Established Boston Firm

Vivo Architecture Rebrand

R.E. Dinneen Architects and Planners (REDAP) was approaching their 38th year in business when the principals began the rebranding process. This established Boston firm is now led by a new generation of three firm owners. Ralph E. Dinneen, the firm’s founder and namesake, has retired from the company.

REDAP has evolved significantly over the past few years. What once was a traditional, old-world architecture firm has benefited from new leadership and staff who bring freshness and vitality to the studio. Whereas the traditional values of excellence and client service remain, this is a new era for the firm. The firm focuses on BioPharma, Life Sciences and related highly specialized design. Being at the vanguard of design and technology is critical to their reputation and design process.

With these considerations, R.E. Dinneen Architects and Planners (REDAP) rebranded to VIVO Architecture. In music, in vivo means with life and vigor. In life science, it means taking place in a living organism. To the firm, it represents the life and movement they find in the iterative design process, the ongoing evolution and growth of the firm, and a reminder that they create useful spaces for people at the forefront of discovery and innovation - improving life for all.

The new brand needed to embrace expertise, dependability and professionalism while reflecting the warm, approachable and progressive environment that is representative of the studio.

VIVO experienced 25% growth in projects received since the rebrand, with many of New England’s prominent biotech corporations joining their clientele.

Among these noteworthy projects, Revolution Labs hired VIVO as the common tenant improvement architect by all the tenant firms; including brands like Keros Tx, Triana Biomedicines, and Alchemab Therapeutics. VIVO’s notable clients (won post-rebranding) include Vor Biopharma, Angiex, and Exo Therapeutics.

We endeavored to capture the firm’s specialization in life sciences without limiting them by designing an exclusively scientific brand. We presented a slide deck with six possible new firm names, from which VIVO was selected. We then presented six tagline ideas, from which “Bringing Design to Life” was selected. Once these foundational elements were defined, the logo, collateral and website were designed.

Vivo has hired new employees, including a former NASA Research Grant Fellow and two senior project architects with 30+ and 20+ years of professional experience.
